The result was There's An Ape Behind The Drape.
After he finds an ape hiding behind a drape, Anthony chases and finds the ape behind capes, and grapes, as well as newspapers and skyscrapers, among other things. At the end of the book, the ape escapes.
Unfortunately, this book is out of print. But I still get a thrill on school visits when a teacher or librarian pulls There's An Ape Behind The Drape off the shelf and tells me how much their children enjoy reading it.
