In 1992, Harcourt published my Dinosaur Days Calendar, in which I played with different "dinosaurs of the month."  My illustration for Octobersaurus featured scary tyrannosaurus witches riging on brooms in a moonlit sky.  There were lots of dinosaur-related facts for certain days of the year along with the regular holidays.

The calendar was only meant for that one year, but Harcourt liked it so much they asked me to do a companion book.  In Happy Holidaysaurus! I have fun linking facts about holidays to facts about dinosaurs.  I celebrate "Happy Eastersaurus" with children decorating the largest dinosaur eggs ever found.  I celebrate Children's Book Day, April 2nd, named in honor of Hans Christian Andersen's birthday.   "It's a perfect day for reading.  Don't you think brontosaurus would be surprised to read that its correct name is apatosaurus?"  A little girl in a library reads to brontosaurus.

Being left-handed, I even celebrate Left-Hander's Day (August 13th).  I show lots of children holding things up with their left hands, along with a dinosaur holding up its left hand.  The dinosaur's name means "left crocodile."  "Do you think it might have been a left-handed dinosaur?"

For Christmasaurus and Hanukkahsaurus I show dinosaurs opening their gifts: a pair of sneakers for the dinosaur nick-named "running lizard," peanuts for "elephant lizard," a football helmet for "thick-headed lizard," long socks for "big leg lizard," and cheese for "mouse lizard."

My dedication for this book reads:  "To my wife, Amy, with love.  Happy 25th Anniversarysaurus."  Harcourt's school division published a big book version of Happy Holidaysaurus! which I love reading on school visits!
